Industrial complexes, defence establishments, transport systems, power plants and other large installations are built to last for decades and a lot of time and money is invested in safety and process control systems. Sadly the computer manufacturers upon whose systems these are based, work to short product life cycles. After five years or so, many manufacturers consider your system as virtually obsolete and as the years go by, they become unable or unwilling to continue support - that or their charges soar.
Installing new systems often yields no benefit to the owner since the new systems don't do anything that the old systems didn't already do and the replacement and qualification of these systems can cost millions and are an unwelcome distraction. You replace these systems only to face doing the job again in 5-10 years.
Our focus is on the preservation of the parts and skills required to keep these systems going for as long as possible. For example, by using this approach, systems dating back to the 1970s are still in service in a UK power station.
We evaluate your current hardware, check out the availability of parts and skills and give you an assessment of the extra length of life that can be derived from your systems. We discuss with you the extra life that you require from the systems and subject to viability, we then commit to support the product throughout this lifespan. One year, three years, ten years - whatever you need.
When taking over a support contract of this type, we strive to acquire all the parts required for the duration of the contract and to leave large stockpiles of hardware on site. This includes complete systems and stocks of disks, tapes and other peripherals. We agree with you a testing clycle to ensure that the spare parts are in working order when required. We agree with you the response times required across the systems and build in as much resiliency as possible. Full disaster recovery options are also available.
We cover equipment from all major manufacturers including Honeywell, Bull, DEC, HP, Compaq, IBM, Dell, EMC, DG, Cisco, 3Com and Sun. We will also evaluate and try to support any specialised hardware that you may have.
Computer Computer have been providing an alternative to major manufacturers since 1989. For a preliminary discussion of your support requirements please call Ian Shearer on 0208 885 9900 or email sales@com-com.co.uk. We can also help you to locate hard-to-find parts.
