Dataram takes Sun Fire X4600 M2 Servers to half terabyte memory capacity | | 2008-06-30 | | Leading provider of server and workstation memory, Dataram Corporation has announced an upgrade of Sun Microsystems Sun Fire X4600 M2 servers to 512GB of memory capacity.
Until now, this large memory capacity was only available in expensive high-end servers running UNIX or mainframe operating systems. This development allows mainstream x86 servers high capacity 8GB memory modules enabling up to half terabyte of main memory.
Sun Microsystems Sun Fire X4600 M2 is currently the only x86 server capable of a half terabyte of memory in a single node.
The DRSX4600M2/16GB memory upgrades consist of two 8GB capacity PC2-5300, DDR2-667 Registered ECC dual-rank memory modules.
The 32 memory upgrades have been installed in each of four servers that run real-time market analytics for a New York City financial services firm. Fast response times play a key role while taking market-trading decisions. These can be accomplished by the entire database residing in main memory. The speed of main memory facilitates fast flow processing of information streaming from multiple news feeds, which can be achieved by the current capability of 512GB.
