EMC launches new Celerra storage arrays with deduplication | | 2009-02-24 | | | EMC has announced the introduction of three new storage arrays for the Celerra NAS range, with built in deduplication and optional solid state (aka flash) disks. The Celerra NS-120, NS-480 and NS-960 arrays (the number corresponds to the storage capacity in terabytes) include integrated NAS, iSCSI and Fibre Channel connectivity. Storage is provided by low power SATA II drives, but EMC says 400GB flash drives will be available in future. The new systems also come with integrated versions of EMC’s Avamar and RecoverPoint backup and recovery systems allowing compression of inactive files and deduplication. According to EMC, this could increase file system capacity by up to 50 per cent. The NS also boasts improved file-level retention, offering better data security, archiving and government compliance facilities. Two plug-ins are offered to ease integration with VMware environments and facilitate disaster recovery with VMware Site Recovery Manager.EMC is also introducing a new gateway system, the NS-G8, that will add NAS and ISCSI capability to Fibre Channel SANs, giving access to unused capacity inside existing SAN arrays and enhancing processing power and connectivity. The products are due in March 2009, with prices starting at $37,725 for a 1.8TB NS-120. The deduplication and retention features will be available for older machines. | |
