EMC launches new low end NAS array

EMC has launched a new version of its low end Celerra network-attached storage (NAS) server series.The Celerra NX4 Unified Storage System, which is based on EMC’s entry-level Clariion AX4 storage array is aimed at SMB’s looking to consolidate distributed file servers and storage into a single platform.The NX4 can be attached in NAS, iSCSI, or Fibre Channel storage-area network systems, offering greater versatility than comparable systems. The system allows administrators to move formerly direct-attached servers into a networked environment for higher availability, non-disruptive scalability, and simplification of management around backup and recovery.Other features include thin provisioning, snapshot technology for data recovery and backups, and a Web-based console that automates management of storage volumes. The Clariion storage based NX4 system can support Microsoft, Unix and Linux server operating systems. VMware, Microsoft Exchange and the SQL Server and Oracle databases will also be supported by the new low-end storage system.With SAS and SATA drives, EMC’s NX4 provides from 4TB to 60TB of storage. Pricing starts at $20,375.
