HP ProLiant blades to be fitted with solid-state drives | | 2008-10-16 | | | HP has announced its recently released HP ProLiant BL495c virtualization blade server will be fitted with Samsung’s 32-GB and 64-GB single-level-cell (slc) solid-state drives (SSDs).The choice of SSD’s over hard disk drives has allowed HP to free up more space for extra memory chips. The BL495c has 16 DRAM offering up to 128 GB of memory. Designed for virtual environments, the BL495c has two ports for SSD’s to act as local booting devices and general configuration storage. The increased memory and I/O rates serve to eliminate bottlenecks in virtual machine hosts. The server has a maximum processor speed of 2.3 GHz and a maximum front-side bus speed of 1 GHz. Samsung SSDs have a read speed of 100 MBps and a write speed of 80 MBps. The drives offer significant power savings, consuming 0.5 watt in active mode and 0.1 watt in sleep mode. | |
