HP launches first failsafe blade server | | 2008-06-16 | | The HP Integrity NonStop NB50000c BladeSystem is designed for zero downtime imperative environments such as financial services, telecoms and emergency services.
HP’s decision to use blades for fault-tolerant servers is based on its strategy for modular server design, bringing benefits like incremental add-ons or component maintenance, higher volume and, better economics.
The product combines standard, off-the-shelf c-Class blade enclosures and blades with added fault-tolerant features.
The blade server interconnect in the back of the chassis is based on the high-speed, low-latency interconnect ServerNet for high availability, while NonStop software enables a fault-tolerant environment. If a problem arises on one blade, the workloads on it are immediately moved to another to prevent downtime.
The system uses multicore Intel processors and the same high density architecture found in the recently launched ProLiant BL2x220c G5.
The servers also feature standard HP management tools, such as HP Integrity Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) 2 , HP Systems Insight Manager and the Onboard Administrator for HP BladeSystem.
HP are promoting the Integrity NonStop BladeSystem as an ideal replacement platform for legacy mainframes because it runs the same kinds of applications at similar or better performance and at lower cost.
As an incentive to switch, HP are offering companies that agree to migrate from mainframe architectures an Integrity NonStop NB50000c at no charge and a full year of NonStop platform software.
