HP releases multiple virtualization products | | 2008-09-04 | | | HP has this week floated a raft of new virtualization oriented products.The HP ProLiant BL495c virtualization blade is designed with more memory, data storage and network connections in order to meet the needs of memory and I/O-hungry virtual machines (VMs).Based on the typical configuration of 4 GB per virtual machine With a maximum of 128 GB of memory, the BL495c can support a minimum of 32 VMs. By filling an HP BladeSystem c7000 enclosure with 16 BL495c server blades, users can utilize up to 512 VMs.The blade will feature: 16 memory slots for up to 128 GB of memory capacity; support for fast and reliable solid-state drives that use less than 2 watts of power; extensive storage options, including the ability to expand to multiple terabytes of disk per server, two additional network connections for a total of eight to communicate with applications and storage systems, and built-in virtualization for Citrix XenServer and VMware ESXi as well as support for Microsoft Hyper-V.Priced at $2,449, the BL495c is due to be available from September 15.A new storage device, the StorageWorks 4400 Scalable NAS File Services is a storage subsystem for virtualized applications which integrates HP’s 4400 Enterprise disk array with its PolyServe NAS file system. Due to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2008, the list price for the Windows File Services version is $94,270 whilst the Linux version is $97,630.HP has also updated its Unix operating system. HP-UX 11iv3 adds several new tools that add performance, management, automated optimization, and better protection within virtual environments.Other releases from HP this week include new asset management software to manage VM inventory and licenses, HP virtualization support services to assist the transition to and implementation of virtual technology, and a virtualization consulting service, HP Virtualization Accelerator Services. | |
