HP tops server sales | | 2008-06-12 | | HP has maintained its position as the worlds leading server vendor according to market analysts Gartner.
Figures for the first quarter of 2008 give HP a 30.1% unit shipment share and a 29.6 revenue share with strong sales driven by the HP ProLiant, Integrity and BladeSystem lines.
HP claimed the top spot in worldwide x86, Intel Itanium and blade server units and revenue. HP also led in the combined units and revenue for UNIX, Microsoft Windows and Linux-based servers.
The Enterprise Storage and Servers unit, responsible for 17% of HP’s income in the second quarter of 2008, recorded a four per cent yearly growth with revenue of $4.8 billion. This achievement was driven by a 68 per cent growth in HP’s BladeSystem sales.
The blade server market continues to expand with businesses increasingly turning to Integrity blades such as the award-winning HP BladeSystem c-Class design as a means of reducing energy and maintenance costs. The forthcoming HP Integrity BL870c looks to continue this trend.
