HP woos Solaris customers

Hewlett-Packard has announced a package of incentives designed to encourage Sun users to migrate to HP platforms.A deal made earlier this year allows HP to sell and provide support for its ProLiant servers with Sun’s Solaris O/S. Under the scheme, customers can migrate to Linux, Windows or HP-UX.HP claim some workloads can be up to 80 per cent more expensive on Sun Machines than on the HP equivalents and say over 100 Sun customers have recently migrated from Sun servers and storage to HP.Aimed primarily at Sun Solaris customers, the Sun Complete Care program offers free migration and total cost of ownership assessments, up to 90 day payment deferrals on leased equipment and 0 per cent financing up to the end of October. A 15 percent trade-in credit or free green disposal is offered for those replacing Sun SPARC systems with HP’s Integrity servers or ProLiant DL785 systems.HP’s Itanium based version of Unix, HP-UX 11i is offered at a 50 - 80 percent discount on a Solaris trade-in with up to 30 per cent off training and support.
