IBM expands Express Advantage portfolio

IBM has expanded its Express Advantage range with the addition of several BladeCenter servers and System Storage products aimed at midsized businesses.Express Advantage products are built on an open architecture to optimize computing resources and feature advanced virtualization capabilities, management and maintenance automation and are comparatively easy to deploy.New products include:- BladeCenter LS22 and LS42 blade servers. These blades run on the latest quad-core AMD Opteron processors and are available with solid-state drives. SSD’s are more reliable and energy efficient than HDD’s, but considerably more expensive.The LS22 blade server has two sockets and is aimed at companies like financial services firms, universities and research labs, and oil and gas companies that run high-performance applications.The LS42 blade server is available in either two or four-socket configurations, which makes for easier scalability within the same blade chassis. The newly announced 2+2 program allows users to start with two-sockets on the LS42 server and expand to a four-socket server if required. - IBM System Storage TS2900 Tape Autoloader Express. An entry-level automated backup for midsized companies’ rack systems, with up to 7.2 TB of capacity and featuring IBM’s recently developed High Density slot technology as well as a remotely operated web interface.- IBM System Storage 7214 Tape & DVD Enclosure Express. A 1U low-cost storage and archival system for IBM Power Systems with a choice of several drive technologies, including DAT, LTO and DVD drives. - A new version of the WebSphere application server, Express V7. A "ready-to-go" technology for running and managing Web sites and applications. The software server includes an application deployment environment with capabilities for transaction management, security, and scalability. All products are now available except 2+2 which is scheduled for release in November.
