IBM launches continuous data protection suit | | 2008-07-31 | | | IBM has launched a new suite of continuous data protection (CDP) products following its acquisition of FilesX three months ago.Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) FastBack software allows improved business continuity and comprehensive recovery of data and applications, as well as the ability to address compliance across customer data centres and remote offices.CDP, also known as continuous backup, has been growing in importance as a way for companies to better ensure their files are safeguarded. The process automates file backups each time a change is made, enabling the restoration of lost files, and the reconstruction of older files versions.“The explosion of data coupled with increasing compliance requirements is driving the need for customers of all sizes to retain, protect and recover information,” said Kelly Beavers, director, IBM storage software. “These new solutions complement our existing data protection software portfolio by offering backup and recovery features tailored for remote office and mid-market customers.”In addition to Fastback, IBM have developed Fastback for Microsoft Exchange for quick and easy restore of individual Exchange objects such as e-mail messages and attachments, and FastBack for Bare Machine Recovery designed for system and server migrations. The three components are available as a single package - TSM FastBack Center.IBM System Storage DS4000 and IBM System Storage DS3000 select models have been added to the suite of storage products intended to integrate with TSM FastBack, providing SMB’s with a comprehensive data recovery and business continuity solution. The products will be available on August 15, 2008. | |
