IBM to launch security conscious blade server | | 2008-09-04 | | | IBM has announced a new security enhanced blade server combining Deep Packet Inspection technology developed by service management and security specialists, CloudShield Technologies, along with IBM’s other protection platforms.The BladeCenter PN41 will be sold as part of IBM’s overall Telecom Integrated Solution for Security aimed at providing all-around protection and data management for networks. IBM’s Proventia Intrusion Prevention, Tivoli Security Operations Manager and support for Check Point Software applications are also included in the package.The system is billed as an all purpose security platform to prevent the transmission of malicious and unwanted data. As well as acting as a firewall, virus checker and spam filter, PN41 is specifically designed to prevent denial of service attacks.Cloudshield’s real time Packet Inspection and DNS defender software enables the rapid detection and termination of rogue data streams, as well as allowing administrators to prioritize network activity, such as video sharing, and web traffic, to minimize end-user delays.The PN41 uses an Intel IXP2805 network chip for packet handling and has four 1 Gigabit Ethernet controllers and four 10Gb controllers. The blade plugs into a BladeCenter H and HT chassis.IBM says the new blade will be available in October, 2008. The price has yet to be announced. | |
