New OEM deals for Sun xVM VirtualBox | | 2008-08-22 | | | Sun has entered into new multi-year OEM agreements for VirtualBox with three new businesses.VirtualBox which Sun acquired from innotek in February, is a hypervisor that is free, open source, and available as a very small download. It allows developers to run multiple operating systems side-by-side so that code can be more easily tested across Windows, Linux, Mac, and OpenSolaris. This makes it highly suitable for OEMs to use as an embedded platform in their own technology offerings."Sun xVM VirtualBox has become hugely popular with developers and power users, and with a modular core that enables it to be embedded in many other solutions, xVM VirtualBox is expanding its reach to new audiences," said Steve Wilson, vice president for xVM, Sun Microsystems. "These recent agreements are just a few examples of how OEMs are leveraging core xVM virtualization technology to produce new solutions with unparalleled performance and functionality."Avanquest Software will produce and publish Sun xVM VirtualBox bundled with OpenSolaris and sell it via retail outlets in the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, and France.Q-Layer plans to use the software to provide datacenter virtualization capabilities for its customers.Bombay based Zenith InfoTech, a managed services infrastructure and business continuity solution provider, has built its network-attached storage appliance for SMBs using Sun xVM VirtualBox. | |
