QLogic launch 8Gb adapter for IBM System x | | 2008-07-21 | | High performance storage networking specialists QLogic Corp has announced it is now shipping QLogic 2500 Series 8Gb Fibre Channel adapters for IBM System x servers.
Developed as part of QLogic’s Star Power Green Initiative, the 2500 Series host bus adapters (HBAs) feature Dynamic Power Management and Cool HBA technologies.
Dynamic Power Management enables the QLogic 2500 to detect the type of PCI Express bus that is present and consume only the amount of power necessary to run at full speed. QLogic Cool HBA technology allows QLogic products like the 2500 Series HBAs to operate up to 55 degrees centigrade without any air flow, unlike comparative products which require cooling fans.
"Data centre administrators are asking for high performance networks that are also energy efficient,” said Amit Vashi, vice president of marketing, QLogic Host Solutions Group. “QLogic 2500 Series HBAs respond with powerful 8Gb performance while reducing the amount of power and cooling required for connecting servers to a SAN. We believe these will enhance IBM’s already energy efficient System x servers."
