2008-08-11
Sun has claimed a new world record for the SPECjbb2005 (Java Business Benchmark). The Sun Fire X4600 M2 server, equipped with eight Quad-Core AMD Opteron model 8360SE processors and running the Solaris 10 Operating System (OS), posted an x86 World Record score of 683,542 SPECjbb2005 bops (85,443 SPECjbb2005 bops/JVM). This, Sun claims, demonstrates that the Sun Fire X4600 M2 server demonstrated that it is 53% faster than the Dell PowerEdge R900 and 75% faster than the Dell PowerEdge R905. The SPECjbb2005, which measures the performance of a Java-implemented application server, is designed to stress the implementation of the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) as well as the scalability of the system’s processors and memory."SPECjbb2005 provides a relevant, useful metric for IT managers to evaluate how well their Java-based applications will run on this platform and with the selection of the Sun Fire X4600 M2 server, they will be selecting a clear winner." said Sun’s Margaret Lewis
