Sun identity manager allows role based provisioning | | 2008-06-25 | | With companies facing an expanding array of regulatory and legal requirements, Sun Microsystems has launched Identity Manager 8.0, a business role based provisioning system designed to manage governance, risk and compliance (GRC) obligations.
Targeted at enterprise and extranet environments where identity lifecycle management and auditing needs exist, the latest release features "closed-loop" compliance techniques, an automated system of transforming inputs into outputs, ensuring that controls and rules exist to regulate user access and providing the ability to review and correct improperly assigned access.
Identity Manager 8.0 includes new export features that let identity data and events be exported to a data warehouse, and business intelligence tools. It also features new reporting tools, management of privileges and validation features to manage identity.
Major updates in operational reporting allow companies to analyse their legal entitlement data, which can help them gain better control of provisioning and auditing processes. This is useful when businesses have to expand their services via the internet and address compliance with government regulations such as Basel 2 and Sarbanes-Oxley.
Sun Identity Manager is available as a stand-alone product, or as part of the Sun Java Identity Management Suite, which includes role management, access management, federation management and directory server products.
