Sun mobile datacenters now with bigger servers

2008-09-18
Sun has rejigged its containerised D20 mobile datacenter to accommodate larger servers such as the SPARC Enterprise M4000 and M5000 servers, StorageTek SL500 Modular Library and the StorageTek 9985V System. The previous model, the S20 contains two rows of four 19 inch racks, 78.1 cm deep giving a total of 280 standard rack units. The D20 replaces one row with three, deeper, 115cm racks, losing 40 units but allowing larger servers to be installed.Sun’s mobile datacenters are housed in 20 or 40 foot shipping containers which are pre-loaded to the customers specifications (which can include third party servers) along with the necessary power and cooling systems.
